Horse breed popularity, like many other things fluctuates, and fads start and end, sometimes very quickly. There are a few breeds that are tried and true, and can be counted on to help build a successful stable. Others are fun, unusual, and may be more of a risk, but become popular nonetheless. Here’s a look at some of the most popular horse breeds in Ponybox stables.
Thoroughbred

Risky In Black jumping 100” or higher.
Quarter Horses
American Quarter Horses are the world’s most popular breed, and they're pretty popular on Ponybox too. There are almost 700 active Quarter Horses and almost 15,000 retired. QHs are jumping in the mid-90 inch range and lower, so they are not high jumping champs. And, they tend to stay out of the top 100 in rank, although they do make a solid showing in the top 500 rankings. Top high jumping QH is ! Zemsta, who has a highest jump of 96”.
Standardbreds
Better known for their speed and prowess in harness, Standardbreds are nevertheless a popular breed on Ponybox. There are just over 100 Standardbreds active right now with a retired population of almost 3,000. The best Standardbred jumpers are clearing 90”, and several are in the top 20 horses. The top Standardbred jumper is PythonPonyPalaces STANDBR.
Appaloosas

Waterhorses
Waterhorses have found a place in the sun on Ponybox. This exotic breed has captured imaginations and top breeders Turn Waterhorses and Fire of the Stars have produced horses that jump over the 90” mark. There are almost 100 active horses and about a 1,000 retired.
Welsh Ponies and Cobs
Hardy Welsh Ponies and Cobs have a good following. There are over 75 active and about a 1,000 retired. Right now, there is no one in the top breeder spots, which looks like a great opportunity for someone to campaign this breed.
