As the race to find alternatives to fossil fuels continues, one company, Fortum is looking at something that may at first seem unusual, but is actually quite an ancient source of fuel. The FEI World Cup Jumping Show in Helsinki is being fueled by horse manure. Not only is the venue running on manure, the manure collected from the horses at the show produces enough energy to supply the show venue and a small hamlet of homes with heat and light. The company estimates that two horses can supply enough fuel to run a single family home for an entire year. Which leaves many horse owners wondering, did we just “strike oil”?
