Montessori schools are known for their child-led education programs that are a bit different than regular public schools. The focus of Montessori programs is to provide an enriched environment for discovery and hands-on learning for students aged up to 18 years old. One such program includes horses in the curriculum.
Journey Montessori school in New Mexico offers a Community Service Program called My Little Horse Listener. Students interact with horses, ponies and burros by caring for them, handling and training. While the program was created to help kids gain confidence and heal from past emotional wounds, for the school the aim is to provide a way to learn to serve not only humans, but animals too.
