My first horse riding competition was a memorable memory in my life, one I will never forget. I was riding Freddo, my second pony I had ever owned (Hard to believe now), in the Topsy ring, which is a ring for beginners. This ring was also a special ring and ran classes for the disabled. I arrived at the show with my mum and dad (Dad normally doesn’t go to these thing but he had to tow the float) and Freddo’s previous owners, Sue and Sean. I couldn't control myself as I focused in on all the plaited, shiny, clipped horses standing patiently by clean, fancy horse trailers. Mum and Sean took Freddo out of the horse trailer and Sue and I went up to collect my number. When we came back Freddo had all the rugs off him and everyone was grooming him happily. One thing we didn’t have to worry about was plaiting because the ring we were in you didn’t need to plait, although all the other rings you had to. As I got changed and ready everyone else pitched in and got Freddo saddled up. I mounted and warmed up Freddo as we waited near the ring line to enter for the first event.
As I was waiting I chatted to the girl on the horse next to me waiting for a disabled event. We chatted and to this day I can't remember why she was disabled, but she was very nice and it shows that even with a disability , you can still compete on the same level as people without disabilities.
It was my turn to go in.
“Neatest and Cleanest ride 7-9 years, please enter” I heard being called. Sean was leading me in this one because it was my first show. We did laps and laps and we were finally called over to line up. Me and Freddo took in 3rd place. Event after event moved by and I ended up leaving with three 3rd places, two 2nd places, two 1st places and a 4th place.
What a great day, new friends and a new memory!
Altogether I competed in the following events that day.
1. Neatest and Cleanest
2. Rider
3. Other colored pony
4. Pony with the Longest Mane
5. Pony with tail closest to the ground
6. Pony with the kindest eyes
7. Hairiest Pony
8. Mum or day rider
9. Topsy Obstacle Course
I know it's a lot, but Freddo was fit and we loved every second of it! |
