This equine video is a real life experience on how wearing a riding helmet saved a life. Many riders have different opinions on whether using a helmet is necessary. How do you feel about using helmets? Is it required at your barn, or do they leave it up to the individual boarders?
I think it's up to the individual to decide whether or not to wear a helmet. I'd recommend it if someone asked my opinion, but I believe that the person needs to decide for themselves to wear one or not, even if they die as a consequence, it was their decision and their fault. We decide to ride horses (A pretty lethal hobby in my opinion) and so if we die as a consequence then it's our own fault because it was our choice to ride them, the same with helmets.
I stopped wearing a helmet when schooling for a little while when on certain horses. However, the other day I came off and hit my head (While not wearing a helmet) and even though it was on a soft surface and it didn't do any damage, it hurt a little. This changed my mind and now I'm wearing a helmet again, no matter the horse or where I'm riding them, I'll always wearing them.
It's all up to the rider, not everyone else.

A horse i leased dragged my mom with the lunge line while i was on the horse. And i fell off and my helmet slammed into the ground.(I only got some scrapes and was fine) Helmets can save lives! Wear one!

I have only ever ridden once without a helmet and the entire time I was regretting it. Thankfully nothing bad happened. But I've been around enough horses to know that accidents happen no matter what. I am not a great rider, and even if I was I could still be hurt or killed if I didn't wear a helmet. Perfectly good professional riders have been seriously injured while riding. And I know of examples of some who have escaped serious injury only because of their helmet.
Personally, I will never again get on a horse without head protection. I value my life, and I don't want my family to go through the pain and misery of my premature death or crippling.

Last year I was riding Puzzle on a hack, and we were jumping some logs left over from the deforestation project that had gone on for most of the year before. Puzzle rushed towards one of the jumps, then swerved away. I came off, and smacked my head against the rocks. Even though I was wearing a helmet, I still passed out for a few seconds. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet, I would have been badly injured, or even dead.

Great Video! I always wear a hat, because horses are un-predictable animals. You never know what's around the corner, even if you think your horse is perfectly safe without a helmet. It could spook you fall off or refuse a jump and you fall off or something else. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET PONYBOX.
