Follow the journey of two wild mustangs from the selection process, to the auction, pick up day, day 1, first touch, all the way up to the $75,000 youth division competition in Fort Worth, Texas. Share the experience of a life time as Ponybox.com's very own seven year veteran member, Super Levi, tames and trains her yearling mustangs. After dreaming of entering the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover (SEMM) competition for three years, I will have 120 days to transform two mustangs just in time for the big event!
What is the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover (SEMM)
The Mustang Heritage Foundation was founded in 2001and is an organization partnered with the Beru of Land Management (BLM). They created the Extreme Mustang Makeovers to promote adoptions of mustangs and to show the trainablity of these wonderful equines. You may be familiar with the normal Extreme Mustang Makeover, where a mustang is selected for an approved trainer who then has 90 days to train their wild mustang before the show and adoption. The difference between The SEMM and the regular EMM is that the horses are pre-adopted to approved adopters. Then exhibitors have 120 days to train their mustangs and they do not auction the horses at the end. The 2012 SEMM will have a total of $250,000 in purse prizes, including a $75,000 youth division!
March 15th, 2012
It is just about 15 days until the long awaited auction. I have my heart set on one little yearling out of the 115 being auctioned. I will try not to get too hopeful and keep in mind my other little favorites, just in case I don't get him. This weekend we are going to go and buy the round pen. I'm so excited! Its kind of like a symbol that this is really going to happen. I have wanted to do this Mustang Makeover for three years now, and at last my dream is coming true! I hope that you decide to follow my journey with my mustang and see how far we go.
March 31st, 2012 - Auction Day
Okay everyone, well today was the long awaited day! Surprisingly I woke up today wishing the auction was next weekend. I was just so nervous! My mom and I ended up leaving our house at 9:30am to the farm where my horses are boarded at, since our friend's TV had the right channel. I sat there for hours watching the adult horses go for as much as $8000! But, halfway through the two hundered some adult mustangs perfectly beautiful mustangs started going into the pools! (Pools are where the horses who don't get a bid go.) I counted almost eight or so pool horses in a row. After that I started to get hopeful. Finally, after over 4 hours of the adults it was finally the yearlings! The adults were a drag, but boy did they zip right through the yearlings! So many that I liked were going to the pools! We sat through the temptation of bidding on ones that I did not previously chose as a favorite. I was holding out for numbers 351, 393 and 414.
