The Queensland floods are a continuing disaster affecting the south east region of Queensland, Australia. The tropical region - some areas of which have suffered chronic drought in recent years, has fallen victim to rapid flash flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Evacuation of the city of Brisbane, home to roughly 2 million people, has begun in more than 40 suburbs, and the surrounding communities including Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Esk, Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, have been urged to move to higher ground.
Two horses of the Burpengary’s Cartmill Centre RDA, Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia Limited, have drowned in the flood. Additionally thousands more livestock and native animals have perished. South of Brisbane the RSPCA were called to a Nujooloo stable to rescue a horse trapped with water as high as its shoulders. Flooding also caused damage to the McIntyre RDA riding Centre, of Pinjarra Hills, but fortunately no horses were lost.
Though Ponybox is home to individuals across the globe, I urge all Ponybox members to keeps the victims of the floods in their thoughts. I understand it may not be achievable for some, however, I ask for your consideration in support of the Queensland flood relief appeal through monetary donations. |

Thats so sad. I hope it all stops soon. I feel so bad for the people who have lost their homes, horses, livestock, friends, family, and even their own lives.

Wow. The force of nature is something to really be reckoned with. We had damaging floods and fires in California not too long ago that resulted in the same things loss of wildlife and domestic life. I hope that the displaced animals find a kind hand to keep them until their home or owners are found.

I volunteer at an RDA centre here in Tasmania. I hadn't heard about the loss of horses at the Burpengary’s Cartmill Centre.
My heart goes out to all the people who have lost horses and other pets and livestock.
Such a sad time.
