My First Horse Show With Gracie
|
|
September 26, 2010. Also known as Gracie's first show. I got up at 7AM and started loading up the trailer and grooming her. Gracie was loving all of the attention. When mom got back from her petsitting job, we just polished her hooves and put her on the trailer. All of us were nervous, but very excited.
As we registered and unloaded her, she was amazed at all the horses around, but she behaved. We walked around the small area for almost an hour, letting her eat grass and see the ring, while all the time she took in everything. When class 3 started, we decided to start tacking up. I was in classes 5 & 6. Mom was a nervous wreck, even though she wasn't even riding, just watching me.
As I walked her around while I was on her back, she acted like the laziest thing ever. I had to ask my mom to get me my crop. Even then, she just wanted to stand around and eat. Since she was like this, I was rather happy. Since she wasn't acting up, I assumed she also would behave in the ring. Boy was I wrong!
The second we entered the ring, she did a small rear. This was the walk trot/jog equitation class so I hoped that wouldn't mess me up much. Once we started trotting, she bolted and bucked, and reared again.
The judge asked everyone to halt while I calmed Gracie down.
Luckily I didn't fall off, and kept my cool. Some of the people were rather rude too. They saw that if they tailed her, she would act up, or if they sped by her, she would act up. So several people tailed me, and Gracie almost kicked them. A few more people sped in front of me when they past me, and of course, Gracie tried to bolt again. Did I mention that this class was also a Green Horse class for horses under three years of show experience? Didn't think so.
None of those horses had less than three years of experience, and the one that was, only entered that class because she knew she would win. She shouldn't have entered any of the green horse classes. When I complimented how nice her horse was, she snapped a PB inappropriate remark at me. Ugh, people. So of course I didn't win anything.
As we entered the next class which was walk trot/jog individual canter/lope, she was better. In the beginning, she still rolled with my perfectly clean bridle and saddle that i spent 3 hours cleaning the night before until 11 o' clock at night. She did the same thing when trotting, and so did the people, but with the cantering she was better. The first time she tried to veer to the left, but I got her under control quickly. Every time Gracie did something naughty this really fat pig of a woman laughed her head off. I didn't get anything in that class either. Although, when it was me and that rude girl on, Gracie reared a small rear, then a medium rear, and then a high rear, and finally jumped forward on the way down. I got off of her and then excited the ring. Anyway, thats how my first show with Gracie went. Awesome huh? |

It reminds me of my first show with my pony(: except she threw me over the ring fence, kicked a horse in the chest(all in the equation class) but shockingly in the jumping, she kicked everybodys bootie! :D lol!

Some people, huh? So everyone else in this show was absolutely perfect, I suppose? They didn't deserve to be laughed at too?
Jeez, they should realize that at one point they were beginners too, and they had just as much trouble, if not more, than you did. -_- I hate it when people get all snoody.

Ugh....people sometimes. I'm fifteen, and only been to one horse show in my life, excluding a FEIT inspection. It was a small one, but I entered my lazy retired hunter. The show was in June. I entered a bunch of equitation classes, and some jumping classes. I took a lazy horse just so I didn't have to worry about keeping our show stallion under control at his own first show. There was this girl who was super nice to me, and complimented me on the equitation classes, and how "cute" my horse was. Another rather snooty twelve-year-old was on a tall Palomino Appaloosa cross, and she won every single class. I got second up against her and the others, and won only one class when her horse went completely crazy, kicking every one else's horses and bolting off. I was able to keep mine under control, and concentrate. Then when the jumping came, my horse refused a lot of them, because he hated when they placed flowers, bricks, or anything else under them. Of course, I didn't win any of those cla

Of course, I didn't win any of those classes. She did on a blue-eyed chestnut Welsh Pony. When I exited the ring, she gave me a smug look, and then turned away briskly. Mind you, I am not a begginer rider, but I've trained myself from computer, video, book, etc. research. The trainer complimented on my riding, telling me I had a professional seat, good heels, quiet hands, etc. Yet, if I spot a beginner, I always am nice to them. I compliment them, and in no way will intimidate them. I really hate the people who have the push-button horses who seems to do everything perfectly, while I have to worry about my own. I'd rather have a challenge than a push-button, anyway. Sorry about the super long post, but I know exactly how you feel. Great job, though, and always keep your head held high.

Lol. People sometimes....I don't get embarassed if my horse acts up, but I always worry about people coming by saying, "Control that horse better! You could hurt someone!" I can control my horse fine, thank you. xP And then here was the twelve-year-old's dad, holding a huge Canon camera set-up, telling me, or demanding me, to smile? Ummm....when I'm riding, I never smile. I'm concentrating too hard. Haha.
I'm thinking of traveling to a different town for next horse shows, also. The people who swarm around my area are snooty, and act as if everyone else is below them.
