Raising Puppies - The First Week

As my dog Rosa went into labor I scurried to get everything ready, it was a first time for both of us. My legs were shaking badly and I kept pacing back and forth through the living room, through the hall, and into the kitchen, then back again. I called my sister, and told her to come over. After about 40 minutes my sister finally arived. I flicked on the T.V. and sat next to my dog, Rosa.
At about 11:45 pm my sister went to sleep. I was mad she wouldn't stay up with me but I didn't argue.
I stayed up all night with her while my sister slept. Around 6:00 am Rosa showed signs of giving birth soon, I woke Savannah and we waited, at 6:30 am the first pup was born! It was a boy. Not to long after that another puppy was born, yet another boy. We then waited for about 40 minutes, another pup, this time, a girl, she was a very vocal pup from the start and very fiesty. After awhile, I don't remember how long, another pup was born, I thought it was going to be a girl, but no, a boy.
Day 1
The Puppies were good, the firat boy to come out I named Coke-a-Cola, he was my favorite, he was the runt. The other two boys were like twins, almost identical, Savannah named the fatter one J.Z. My dad named the other one that had a funky ear, Rowdy. Savannah and I decided to name the girl Moony because she sounded like a wolf puppy. All went well with puppies over the day.
Day 2
Coke was a little skinnier, it didn't concern me much though, all the puppies were nursing, the other 3 were getting fatter already, they did good overnight. Didn't do much that day, I didn't want to leave the puppies, but we later went out to eat.
Day 3
Coke looked deathly sick, he didn't nurse the whole night, or so it looked. The other 3 were fine but Coke, the poor little runt, was even skinnier. We tried to bottle feed him, it came out his nose of what he drank. We then took him to the vet, he had Cleft Palate, a slit on the roof of the mouth, so when he drank it came out his nose, and he would breath that in. He also had Pneumonia. The X-Ray which I didn't see also showed the his esophagus wasn't even attatched to his stomach, we had to put him down, I was devistated. I didn't do anything else that day, just sat there, like I was nothing. Read more about Coke here.
Day 4
I didn't leave the puppies, I was to scared, I did a few things today. I tried to push the thought away, everyone else was better then me. All the other puppies were fine though, growing bigger. J.Z. the biggest, and Rowdy was now the runt by just a little.
Day 5
Nothing new, felt a little better today, puppies and mom doing great, Rosa was a great mom even on her first try. The puppies helped me heal up, they work miracles on you.
Day 6
Rosa was a little annoyed with the puppies, as most dog moms are, it made me laugh a little. The puppies are great, I wanted to bottle feed them, but I have to wait. They love to cuddle.
Day 7
The puppies had a great week, Rosa was still sad about Coke just as much as me. The pups had already doubled in size, it's amazing how fast they grow. Their tongues are so cute, so small. The girl as usual is very loud, she wakes me up every morning. I still can't believe how much they have grown in one week!
