This was at Tiara's first official CTR (Competitive Trail Ride), in October 2012. We did the 15 miler, and she did fantastic. She was barely breathing hard by the end, and I think we could have easily done the 25 miler. She kept up a nice steady trot the entire time, and we had a few good lopes too.We were riding with a lady on a Paso who had a GPS that also told you how fast you were going. We were usually trotting between 8.8 and 9 miles per hour, a little bit above a normal horse's trot, which is about 8mph.
This one was called the Jersey Devil, and it was held the week of Halloween in 2012, in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Nearly all the trails were just flat and sandy. Nice footing, but it did make it a bit hard for them. Apparently they hold this event every year around Halloween, and people are suppose to look for the Legendary "Jersey Devil". We didn't see him, but maybe next year!
And, to top of the great weekend, we packed up and left quickly, racing against Hurricane Sandy all the way inland, away from the ocean! |
