Do you know what iv worked out this very last week or so. Don't be upset at levels.
I literally had 2 mares good lines, good xrays. Age 9 one was level 5 she flew into her 90s.the other level 7 didnt hit 90s until her turning 10 today. So to be honest am starting to think levels aren't a big thing as first thought.
They are so random I find they all level to 5 easily but after that it's very hit or miss and there is no way to control it.

I also don’t have a clue on what my horses training levels are doing
I’ve not really noticed a pattern with any certain lines
I should really start paying attention to it all a bit more maybe work out what’s going on with them :L

After level 5, All leveling is really random. Skipping 1-3 levels is really normal right now, and getting one that levels perfectly is very hard to do.

Maybe it opens up for Jeff to create an item or two we can use to level them up, ;)

Hmm. Thanks guys! Good to know mine aren't horribly behind everyone else.
An item would be interesting! But definitely challenging with only 10 slots per horse, unless we get to increase that too...
I feel like I have noticed an effect on performance; the ones that stay behind tend to really lag on jumps. But maybe that's just bad luck. I was curious about the lines because I keep having foals from great horses do poorly and wondered if there was an inheritable element with training I need to address, but sounds like maybe not? Will have to dig more through notes, I think.
