Life Lessons From a Horse
posted 21st Mar 2010
|

I have learned many things in the nearly eighteen-years I have walked this earth. But perhaps the most valuable lessons have come from owning my two cheeky, adorable miniature horses Beauty and Star. I thought I should share them with you, and we can all become richer for the experience.
1. Hoses are snakes.
You may not see them move, but I do, and I know they are coming for me. The same applies to trailing ends of lead-ro >>

DejaVu: Should She Stay or Should She Go
posted 20th Mar 2010

Over the years Ponybox.com moderator DejaVu has been the focus of a myriad of controversies, scandals, conspiricies, complaints and praises by Ponybox members. DejaVu has spent the past 6 years as a lead moderator and one of the more strict faces of admin.
After reading a recent letter Ponybox received by snail mail discussing a members complete disatisfaction with DejaVu's strict no tolerance policy when it comes to fou >>

This isn't serious, is it? Please say it's some kind of early April Fools thing. Because my mind can't comprehend DejaVu leaving because a few people break rules and get whiny about getting in trouble. Because, you know, when you get arrested by the

How to Join Up with your Horse.
posted 20th Mar 2010
|
|
Join up is where you and your horse act as a herd. Your horse has to treat you with the respect that he would give a senior herd member in the wild. This method was used in the Heartland books and most people that do JoinUp and work with trusting of horses such as Parelli also use this acient method.
How to join up
Join up is simple. Take you and your horse into a pen or a menage - make sure you trust your horse e >>

Outsourcing Horse Art and Graphics
posted 20th Mar 2010
|
|
Ponybox relies heavily on outsourcing art and other aspects of the site to people that are more talented than myself. As the owner of Ponybox LLC my time is very valuable and outsourcing some of our work to experts makes a lot of sense.
A few months ago Ponybox released a feature on PB3 called the Ponybox Marketplace. The Marketplace is a one stop solution to get great custom graphics for your website, sim game or school >>

I don't play PB3 as much, but I do love the marketplace feature. You've got good design skills, Jeff. Don't need to be an artist to make a great site! -)

Horses understand feelings: An arm to lean on
posted 19th Mar 2010
|
|
I have always viewed and treated my horse as an individual. Always considered his point of view, always allowed him to express his feelings. After all, my horse is my friend, and on occasions, my psychiatrist.
On one particularly gloomy day, I felt I have lost all purpose for existence. The despair somehow left me longing to see my horse.
Arriving in the early hours of the afternoon proved to be a good time for some priv >>

Taking Care of Your Horse’s Back
posted 18th Mar 2010
|
|
‘No foot no horse’ – that’s true, but ‘no back, no riding’. If your horse suddenly nips when you put the saddle on, starts bucking, or hunching its back when you get on, then there may be a problem with its back, and even minor back pain can make your horse irritable and not able to perform its best. That’s why taking good care of your horse’s back to prevent injuries, and keep your horse fit and flexible is so important. S >>

Great topic, and job well done. A lot of riders don't realize how delicate horse's backs really are. I'd also like to add that, if you ride western, you can put your horse's saddle on without a pad or blanket, and see if you can push down on the horn

Let Ponybox Owner Jeff Ness Advertise For You
posted 17th Mar 2010

|
Last year I attempted to advertise real boarding facilities for free on Ponybox. All that was required was to send in a tee-shirt with the facility name and I would take a picture of me wearing the shirt and post it on Ponybox. The reason for doing this was to allow Ponybox members to support and promote their boarding facility on Ponybox. I though it would be a great idea since we get thousands of horse lovers coming to Po >>

Adopting a Rescue Horse and The Road to Recovery
posted 17th Mar 2010
|
|
Adopting a rescue horse is a wonderful, noble thing to do, but a rescue's road to recovery is not always easy. Before taking in a rescue horse, prepare yourself. You will need more resources for a rescue than for a regular horse. This horse will need more food, training, and the like than the every-day-run-of-the-mill horse. A rescue horse will also cost more money. Your new horse will need your love, energy, care, and ti >>

Don't forget to mention how vital vet and farrier involvement can be. As for picking a horse carefully, I lucked out-my parents got me a rescue as a complete surprise, and it jsut so happened we get along quite well. Usually xD

Love Who You Love

Every girl wants a horse at one point in their lives, and when I was eight, I was lucky enough to get one. He was a 28 year old bay gelding, named Bay. We bought him with the name, and never changed it. We liked it, and we are not sure why. It just fit the old' guy.
I never had thought of using him in shows, and we never did. He was a cow chaser, and that was his favorite activity. In the third picture, you can tell how exc >>

How to Paint Clouds in Gimp

How to paint clouds with gimp.
1. Create an empty canvas. Fill it with a good sky colour, a sort of average blue will do. (see picture one at the bottom)
2.Use the dodge tool (or pick your own colors) to vary the shades. You will need atleast three different shades. I would recommend starting with the lightest blue at the bottom, and working up from there.
3.Smudge, I know we all love doing this, I would use a larger >>

The Joy of Foals

I will never forget the day my Miniature mare Chardonnay had her first foal.
It was a Sunday morning around 10:00 am. My family was just sitting down for brunch when my brother (A non-horse person) came into the house stating "Mom, Your horse is laying on the ground with her legs in the air!". At that moment me and my mother knew the foal was coming! We jumped to our feet and gathered the supplies we might need and took off f >>

Sharing Feelings with your Horse
