Losing a stirrup anywhere, a lesson, horse show, or even on a trail ride can diminish your concentration which could lead in loss of control, balance, etc and result in a fall. When you lose a stirrup it is positioned flat against the horse’s side it closes against the rider’s foot and catches the falling rider. When you lose a stirrup you obviously want to get it back quick and efficiently so, what happens when you can’t?
While shopping in my local tack store I came across a fancy invention entitled “MDC Intelligent Stirrup”. At first glance this stirrup looks like any old stirrup seen on saddles across the world. So why is this stirrup come with a $169-204 price tag?
Well, let’s start off with the positioning. Riders can select any of three stirrup positions traditional, 45 degrees or 90 degrees and help improves leg, calf and foot position as well as relieves pressure on your hips, knees and ankles.
When set to the 45 degree angle riders feel a large amount of pressure set onto their shin from the leather is gone. This angle is recommended for show jumpers and event riders as it allows an open window for you to retrieve your stirrup.
Placing the stirrup in the 90 degree position allows the rider to feel no contact with the leather at all. This setting allows the maximum retrieval and the greatest safety, as the stirrup tends to remain open allowing the dislodged rider to clear the stirrup safely and easily. This angle is recommended for dressage, endurance and tail riders as well as general flat riding.
So, I think most of you have the same question..
"Will it turn while I am riding?"
The simple answer is no. The stirrup has been designed to require positive pressure from above and below to turn the mechanism. With only the stirrup leather above the iron, there is no focus point to apply pressure to allow the stirrup to turn.

Wow!I never seen that!I am constantly loosing my stirrups!!Surprisingly though I have only fell off once which was because of the firth, but if I wouldnt had lost my stirrups I would have fell as bad..I may be talking to my parents up about coughing up some 200$ :P thanks for letting us know about those!! :D
I have used these for a while now. Theyre probably the best thing that ever happened to me!! ( not kidding) I show every weekend and after pretty much every show I have swollen and hurting knees that hurt so bad I could barely walk. I had been to the doctor they did nothing but my trainer told me bout them and ever since I dont have nearly as much pain after I ride.
